Faculty and Staff Awards
Every year the graduate students present awards for "Outstanding Contribution to the Graduate Program" and "Excellence in Teaching." These awards are handed out yearly at the international potluck to deserving faculty and staff.
The award for
Outstanding Contribution to the Graduate Program rewards the activities
of a faculty or staff member who has contributed to improving the
quality of the graduate program in the broadest sense.
The Excellence in Teaching award gives students a chance to recognize
the wonderful learning opportunities available in the department by
recognizing a particular faculty member.
The nomination process
works as follows.
1. Any student is eligible to nominate a faculty or staff member
for one or both awards by sending a paragraph about why you believe this
person deserves such high praise to VP, Lindsay Ludwig, by March 26th.
Students are permitted to submit more than one nomination.
2. The THC compiles all the nominations and sends out an email to
students listing the names of the people up for the award, and their
supporting nomination paragraphs.
3. Each student may then vote (once!) for their preferred nominee
in each category.
4. The THC tallies the votes and announces the winner at the
international potluck. If your nomination wins, you give a short
address at the potluck about why you made the nomination
Last year's winners are ineligible, so Dave Lewis cannot be nominated
for Outstanding Contribution, and Brian Gould cannot be nominated for
Excellence in Teaching.
