Admission and Declaring the Major
All students, no matter which school or college they wish to study in, apply to the University of Wisconsin and are divided into their individual colleges after admission. To learn more about the admissions process and admission expectations at the University of Wisconsin-Madison please visit the Office of Admissions website .
To declare the major:
- Contact the Director of Undergraduate Programs, Prof. Thomas Cox (608-262-9493, tcox@wisc.edu) or Department Chair, Prof. Ken Shapiro (608-262-8966, kshapiro@wisc.ed) for an advising appointment.
- Print a DARS report for your current major and also the one you wish to declare and bring it to the meeting.
- After talking with you, Prof. Cox or Prof. Shapiro will assign you to a faculty advisor whose interests most closely match with yours.
- Then, go to the Office of Undergraduate Programs & Services Office (116 Agriculture Hall) to declare the major and finalize the transfer into the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. Transfer students need to attend a workshop to declare the major. These are offered every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at 3:30 pm, during the academic year, in the Undergraduate Programs & Services Office. The workshop will last no more than one hour and you should come with a DARS report for the major you plan to declare. Sign up in advance by calling 608-262-3003 or emailing undergrads@cals.wisc.edu; please include your student id number, intended major and degree program, and the name of the advisor with whom you spoke. The office of Undergraduate Programs and Services can provide additional information on programs or help students who are unsure of which CALS major to select.
