Sustained Lab Computer(s) Use Policy(TechDoc #3180)

The primary purpose of the Halvorson/Ebling Computer Center is to provide instructional computer resources to students of the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. All other uses of the lab, including graduate student research, are secondary to instructional needs. In order to ensure that the lab is used correctly, please follow the following policies, in regard to sustained lab computer(s) use.

  • Students wishing to use multiple computers at a time may only use up to two computers simultaneously. Those who require more than two for a special project must obtain prior approval from the HECC Director.
  • The lecture area, designated by the 15 computers at the south end of the lab facing the wipeboard, may NOT be used for running programs whose run-times may require the user responsible to leave the lab (e.g. long runs).
  • We have instituted a policy where the maximum login time is 24 hours. Any machine left logged in for more than 24 hours, will be logged out automatically, which will cause any unsaved work to be lost. If you need additional log-in time, arraignments must be made with the HECC Director in advance.
  • The ability to lock workstations has been removed. This implies that leaving a computer unattended does not guarantee uninterrupted use.
  • Remove all personal items from the HECC when you leave at the end of the day. The HECC is not your office. Any items left in the lab will be removed and placed on the shelves by the door. This includes notes, books, CD’s, etc.. The HECC is not responsible for any items left in the computer lab.
  • These policies will go into effect at the end of business on May 27, 2005.

PLEASE NOTE:
All lab machines will be rebooted Sunday mornings at 3:00am. Any unsaved work open at that time will be lost.
