Research Interests
My research program is currently focused on the industrial organization of the U.S. and global food systems. Research interests include a) measuring market power in food processing and retailing industries, b) understanding the role of trade policies as facilitating practices for gaining market power c) improving the linkages between industrial organization and finance in terms of understanding firm behavior and market power, d) developing an improved understanding of the benefits and costs of global antitrust policies, international competition, cartels, and WTO policies affecting competitiveness of markets.
Outreach and Extension Interests
The FSRG (aae.wisc.edu/fsrg) operates a press release program that provides summaries of completed research and opinion papers on sensitive public issues. I have spoken to international audiences about market power issues in the food system. I teach methods for evaluating markets to competition agencies. I am always interested giving talks on pricing and market power in agricultural markets important to Wisconsin producers.
